Get A Better Rank on Google for Free!

BY Rune Risom ON October 18th, 2009

The rapid growth of the Internet has lead to the creation of a multitude of sites about every topic imaginable. With such a large crowd to compete with, how is anyone supposed to stand out and get more hits without spending a fortune on advertising?

It may surprise you to hear this, but there are very affordable ways to do so. With a few adjustments to your writing and website planning, you could easily be at the top of everyone’s search list without spending any money at all. How?

Before we get into the how, know that there are many services out there that will help you with this task and provide tools that will make the management of it all easier and more streamlined. Some are free, while others will cost you but are very affordable. You can do all of this yourself if you prefer, but there is help available if you need it.

The first thing you need to do is make a decision regarding which keywords you want to focus on, and make effective use of them. The more often and naturally you use them, the more relevant search engines will consider your website to specific searches. You can’t just bunch a lot of keywords together over and over again, though; search engines generally don’t like that, and your page rank will fall. Natural usage is vital. Let’s say you are are in charge of a touring service in France. Words that would naturally appear on your website’s pages are terms like ?tours,? ?France,? and ?guides.? The idea is to use those terms more often in a way that seems natural, without compromising your content. More specific terms like ?Eiffel Tower? and ?Palace of Versailles? could also be used to boost your rank in searches containing those terms.

Using these keywords in the titles of your pages will reap even better results, as most search engines treat the titles of your page as the best indicator of what your page offers. While it is going to happen naturally most of the time anyway, with care and planning your titles can be loaded with the keywords you need to attract the page views you desire. Effective use of your page titles can make all the difference in the world.

Attracting inbound links from other websites is also a great way to boost your search engine rank. Depending on the nature of your site, you can affiliate yourself with sites that offer similar content (essentially, you link to each other for mutual gain), have you site listed on a directory (some directories charge for this, but there are those that are free), or try to generate buzz through word of mouth and have blog posts link to your site. This works very well if a large number of these links use keywords you’ve already targeted and used on your site.

As your becomes more well known and visited, your site’s rank will naturally rise as more people talk about and link to your website. Making use of these techniques will make the journey easier, and get your website to the top of search results sooner.
